TikTok just introduced TikTok Now, a BeReal clone

BeReal seemed to be all the rage right now. Instagram is already working on clone features, while TikTok has debuted a new tool today that is essentially a replica of BeReal.

The BeReal Fever

BeReal asks users to snap a front and back camera photo at a random moment every day in order to get a more accurate image of what our friends are doing every day, but you may always wait till you're doing something fascinating to publish. Snapchat and Instagram have previously included front and rear camera functions, and Instagram is said to be developing its own time-based, ephemeral feature. However, TikTok beat its rivals to the punch by becoming the first app to just copy and paste BeReal onto its platform.

Every day, when the BeReal goes live, users get a push notice informing them that "it's time to BeReal," which is followed by alarm emojis. TikTok's notice seems to be the same - users are told between lightning emojis that it is "Time to Now," which does not have the same ring to it as BeReal.

According to TikTok, the functionality is now accessible to users in the United States. According to the mockup photos, "Now" has taken up important real estate on the bottom navigation bar, near to the publishing button. We haven't seen the feature yet, at least not yet. TikTok also said that TikTok Now may be available as a separate app in additional locations.

Privacy Concerns

BeReal has its own set of privacy problems. If you don't take care to switch off your location, you can unintentionally share your precise position, down to the street name, with all of your friends, this extent of data sharing can be harmful. Yes, BeReal is meant for usage inside your primary social group; nevertheless, there is a public feed! Location does not seem to be part of the TikTok Now interface in the prototype photos TikTok published.

As a result, TikTok Now has certain privacy measures built in from the start. If a person under the age of 16 registers for a standalone TikTok Now app, their account will be made to private by default, much like TikTok.

Furthermore, users must be 18 years old to share their BeReals TikTok Now postings on the Explore Feed. Only your friends will be allowed to comment on your posts for users 13 to 15. Even for users 18 and over, the default option allows only friends to access your postings, however they may adjust their settings to share with the rest of the world if they like. Everyone appears to be imitating someone, but it's wonderful to watch how applications put their own twist on borrowed functionality.
