Apple iOS 16 Messages Has Brand New Exciting Features

iOS 16 has been the best OS update by far. For the first time since the creation of the iPhone, Apple has given users the freedom to customize their iPhone however they want. The new features bring exciting new upgrades to iMessage as well.

iMessage Editing

You may amend an iMessage sent in iOS 16 for up to 15 minutes after it is sent. To edit an iMessage, just hold on to the message you want to change, make your changes, and then tap the blue checkmark to resend.

When utilizing this functionality, there are a few things to remember. First, it only works with iMessage, not SMS messages; therefore, both parties must have an iPhone for it to function properly. Messages edited will be replayed for people who do not have iOS 16.

To use the message editing tool as designed, participants must have the most recent Apple upgrades, including iOS 16, iPadOS 16, macOS Ventura, and watchOS 9.

When receiving a modified iMessage, those using a previous operating system or those using Android will see text that states "Edited to [text]." Because the Messages app does not offer a history of the changed iMessage, the person on the other end will not know what the modification was.

Mark as Unread

In iOS 16, a new mark as unread feature enables you to designate an SMS message or iMessage as new so that it gets the blue dot to remind you to return.

Mark as unread is beneficial if you get a message but don't have time to read or respond to it immediately since it preserves the message as a new message with a notice badge in the Messages app. To designate a topic as unread, click it and then touch the "Mark as Unread" option.

SharePlay Assistance

SharePlay, a feature that allows you to use applications, watch TV, listen to music, content transfer, and do other things with friends and family through FaceTime, has been extended to the Messages app. You may start a SharePlay session with the Messages app from any app that supports SharePlay.

Participants in the SharePlay experience may view the same material and communicate about it using iMessage. This is useful for collaborating on different applications, playing games, working out, discussing TV programs and movies, and almost any other SharePlay engagement. In addition, SharePlay is now compatible with both Messages and FaceTime, allowing you to choose your preferred means of communication.

Report Junk Messages

Apple is extending the Communications app's built-in "Report Junk" function to include SMS/MMS messages, enabling spam messages to be reported to chosen carriers in the United States.

In iOS 16, you may pick the "Report Junk" option by long-pressing on an SMS/MMS message in the Unknown Senders section of the Messages app. Using this option, you may report a message as garbage, send it to Apple and Verizon, and delete it. Although the Report Junk tool was previously available for iMessage, the ability to report SMS/MMS messages to both Apple and carriers is new.

iMessage Unsend

If you send an iMessage and then change your mind, you may withdraw it using the undo send option. In addition, you may cancel an iMessage up to 15 minutes after you send it.

iMessage unending, like iMessage editing, has limits you should be aware of. For example, if you use the undo send function on a message sent to someone using an older version of iOS, the message will not be unsent.

These are just some new features that have been rolled out on iMessages. Keep an eye out for further details on the other features introduced with the iOS 16.
