Google Photos Rolls Out AI-Powered "Remix" Feature Globally

Google has been steadily enhancing its Gemini AI systems throughout the year, introducing exciting tools for its AI chatbot and upgrading popular services like Google Photos. One of the most anticipated additions — the Remix feature — is now starting to roll out to users worldwide.

This tool allows you to transform any image into a cartoon-style masterpiece, making your photos look like anime scenes, comic book panels, hand-drawn sketches, or even 3D animation styles reminiscent of Pixar or DreamWorks.

What Is the Google Photos Remix Feature?

First showcased in July, Remix is an AI-powered creative tool that changes the style of your chosen image into one of four art styles:

  • Anime style – inspired by Japanese animation aesthetics

  • Comic book style – bold outlines and vibrant colors

  • Sketch style – pencil-like hand-drawn finish

  • 3D animated style – similar to high-end animated movies

Unlike Google Photos’ AI-driven photo-to-video feature, Remix focuses entirely on style transformation rather than motion creation.

How to Use Remix in Google Photos

Currently, Remix is available only to select users via the Google Photos mobile app. Once the new Create tab rolls out more widely, all creative features will be accessible in one place. Until then, you can try Remix by:

  1. Opening Google Photos on your mobile device.

  2. Tapping the + icon in the top-right corner.

  3. Selecting Remix under the “Create” section.

  4. Choosing one of the four art styles.

  5. Picking the photo you want to transform.

  6. Hitting Generate to see your AI-powered artwork.

If you’re not satisfied with the result, simply tap Regenerate for a fresh variation.

A Social Media Hit in the Making

AI-powered artistic transformations have gained massive popularity online, with people sharing Studio Ghibli-inspired portraits, fantasy avatars, and comic-style selfies. What makes Google Photos Remix special is its in-app integration — no need to upload your images to third-party websites or risk privacy concerns. If your images are already stored in Google Photos, creating these styles is just a few taps away.

Once you’ve turned your photos into stunning artworks, you’ll want to share them with friends, family, or colleagues — even if they’re using a different device or platform. That’s where Smart Transfer, a third-party iOS to android transfer app, comes in.

Smart Transfer allows you to transfer messages, high-quality images, app share, videos, and files across Android and iOS devices quickly and securely, without compression. Whether you’re sharing your new anime-style selfie with a friend on an iPhone or sending a 3D Pixar-style portrait to a group chat, Smart Transfer ensures your creations look just as vivid as when you made them.

When Will Remix Be Available for Everyone?

If you don’t see the Remix option yet, you’ll need to wait for Google to complete the rollout. Given past updates, it’s likely the feature will be available to all users over the coming weeks. Until then, you can explore other AI features in Google Photos — and get your Smart Transfer app ready for when you start creating.
