iPadOS 17: Anticipated Features and the Arrival of Revamped Lock Screen



Last year, Apple released iPadOS 16 without one of the key features of iOS 16: the revamped Lock Screen. However, it appears that this could change with the release of iPadOS 17. Mark Gurman reports that the update will "lay the software groundwork for revamped iPad Pro models coming next year with OLED displays." Always-On Display

The iPhone 14 Pro's always-on display is the first feature that springs to mind with the introduction of the low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) OLED display. Therefore, it is likely that iPadOS 17 will bring the personalized Lock Screen to the iPad. Since the Lock Screen is tied to the always-on display, it is possible that it will arrive in iOS 17 before the new OLED iPads introduce the always-on display.

Delayed Release of Features

Apple has a history of holding back on certain features until the timing is right. For instance, the Home screen widgets and App Library feature were introduced in iOS 14 but were held back for iPadOS 14. With the launch of the new iPadOS, users can anticipate that some new features will not be released until the timing is right.

iOS and macOS Focus on Maintenance and Stability

There have been rumors that iOS and macOS will be more focused on maintenance and stability, rather than new features. Nevertheless, iOS 17 will reportedly include some of users’ “most requested features.” However, there is not much news about the features coming to iPadOS 17.

iPad Pro OLED Display

Rumors have been circulating about the iPad Pro getting an OLED screen for some time now. Gurman's report suggests that it will finally arrive next year, which probably means a spring release, about 18 months after the M2 model arrived.
