New Features & Enhancements in Samsung's One UI 5.1


Samsung unveiled the much-anticipated Galaxy S23 series at the Samsung Unpacked event held in February 2023. These latest smartphones boast impressive hardware and software features that will appeal to the tech-savvy user. A Smarter Samsung Gallery app

The Samsung Gallery app is a feature-rich app that has been further enhanced in One UI 5.1. Moreover, you can now search for multiple objects or people at once, and the app now recognizes faces in photos, prompting you to add them to a shared album. Similar to iOS 16, Samsung has added object recognition and separation capabilities to its Gallery app, making it easier to copy, share, or save a person or object in a separate image.

New Battery widget

One UI 5.1 introduces new 4x1 and 4x2 homescreen battery widgets that can display the remaining power of the phone, S Pen, and other connected accessories like the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro and Samsung Galaxy Watch 5. The Weather widget has also been improved, with new animations to enhance the user experience.

Expert RAW integration

Samsung's Expert RAW app, which was previously a separate download from the Galaxy Store, has now been integrated into the built-in camera app with One UI 5.1. You can start the transfer process by scanning a QR code, eliminating the need for a USB cable.

Modes & Routines (FKA Bixby Modes) Improvements

Samsung has renamed Bixby Routines to Modes and Routines in One UI 5. The company has also added new actions and triggers, further improving the feature. With this update, you can now assign different wallpapers to different modes, such as having a different wallpaper for your Work mode and Sleep mode. Other new actions include controlling Quick Share, changing the ringtone, and adjusting the touch sensitivity. Additionally, you can trigger actions by turning on airplane mode or toggling a mobile hotspot, among others.

DeX improvements

One UI 5.1 brings some minor improvements to DeX, the desktop experience for Samsung smartphones. You can now resize app windows when running them in split-screen mode using the split bar in the middle of the display. Moreover, you can drag an app window to a corner of the screen to resize it to occupy only a quarter of the display, improving multitasking.

Samsung typically rolls out its software updates in stages, so it may take some time for the update to reach all devices.
