Samsung Confirms One UI 5.1 Release & Eligible Phones

Samsung is gearing up for the launch of One UI 5.1, the next version of its custom Android skin. The company has recently confirmed its existence and which phones will be updated to the new version. In this article, we will take a closer look at what we know so far about One UI 5.1, its features, and the devices that will be compatible with the update.

Release Date & Compatible Devices

The company has confirmed that One UI 5.1 will be available starting in February 2023. A changelog for the latest Galaxy Watch 5 update explicitly mentions "One UI 5.1" by name as a requirement for new "Camera Controller" functionality on Galaxy Watch 5. This feature allows users to pinch-to-zoom on their wrist to control the zoom on their paired smartphone.

The changelog also confirms which devices will be updated to One UI 5.1. The update will be available on "flagship models released after Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Z Flip," which includes the Galaxy S20, S21, and Galaxy S22, as well as Galaxy Z Flip, Z Flip 5G, Z Flip 3, Z Flip 4, Galaxy Z Fold 2, Z Fold 3, and Galaxy Z Fold 4. It is likely that some budget-focused devices and tablets will also be updated to One UI 5.1 which has Samsung’s new transfer files feature, but it is not clear if they will support this specific feature.

Expected Features

While much of One UI 5.1 is shrouded in mystery, we know that the update will bring new "Camera Controller" functionality to Galaxy Watch 5. This feature allows users to pinch-to-zoom on their wrist to control the zoom on their paired smartphone. Samsung has previously said that this functionality would be available starting in February.

However, it is not clear what other new features or improvements One UI 5.1 will bring. We expect more information to be revealed as the release date approaches.
