iOS 16.3 Beta 2 Release: What's new for Developers

Apple has released the latest update in their beta testing cycle with the roll-out of iOS 16.3 beta 2 for developers. Along with the iOS update, beta versions of iPadOS 16.3, watchOS 9.3, macOS 13.2 and tvOS 16.3 are also being made available to developers.

Availability

The update will be available to registered developer beta testers today and can be installed by going to the Settings app, choosing General, then choosing Software Update. As of now, the update has not been released to public beta testers but is expected to be made available soon. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has reported that Apple is targeting a release date for these updates sometime in February or early March.

What's new in iOS 16.3

The first beta of iOS 16.3 was released almost a month ago and so far, the update does not include many new features or changes. One of the new features coming with the update is the ability to use physical security keys to protect Apple IDs and faster contact share feature. The former means users will have a physical hardware device that can serve as the second layer of two-factor authentication for their account.

Additionally, iOS 16.3 also includes a new tutorial to show users how to take advantage of the Handoff feature between iPhone and HomePod.

In short, iOS 16.3 beta 2 is rolling out to developers, along with other platform updates. The update is expected to be released to public beta testers soon, and it may take until February or March for the final release of the update. The update includes new features such as the ability to use physical security keys to protect Apple IDs and a tutorial for the Handoff feature between iPhone and HomePod.
