Google Kills Cloud Gaming, Announces Laptops

Google Kills Cloud Gaming, Announces Laptops

Google has been on a roll lately, it has been killing of projects one after the other, the latest to get the axe was the foldable Pixel smartphone. The search engine giant also shut down Stadia gaming and has now announced that it is gearing up to release a line of Chromebook gaming laptops.

Gaming Chromebook Laptops

The official announcement that was revealed today is that an upcoming line of Chromebooks will be produced in conjunction with Acer, ASUS, and Lenovo. These Chromebooks will have cloud gaming capabilities explicitly in mind when they were built.

Even though this doesn't mean much in terms of performance because these are Chromebooks and we're talking about streaming games rather than playing them locally, the three will be doing everything they can within the confines of those limitations to appeal to gamers. Althought, we can expect these laptops to carry out basic tasks such as file sharing with no issues. This includes shipping with larger screens (15–16 inches) and RGB keyboards.

The most essential thing about them, though, is that they come with three distinct streaming platforms which includes Xbox Cloud Gaming, Geforce Now, and Amazon Luna,  already pre-installed and ready to use when you get them.

The one from Lenovo will cost $599, the one from ACER will set you back $650, and the one from ASUS does not yet have a pricing. We will update you with more details hopefully soon. A surprising but not unexpected reveal by Google.
