Chrome Once Again Under Threat

Chrome is one of the most used search engines worldwide, however recent cases of threats have been quite alarming. Google Chrome is being targeted on Windows and Android. You should not browse without applying the patch since the current security flaw in WebRTC contains an attack that is spreading in the public.

Here's What You Should Know

A buffer overflow in WebRTC, a real-time communication technology supported by all major browsers, is the source of the zero-day security flaw. It's used to create audio and video chat apps for websites.

Google has not released any information on the flaw and will not do so until the majority of Google Chrome users have received the security fix. It has a "high" severity rating. It is quite conceivable that it will enable a malicious website to take control of your computer or clone it.

The good news is that a patch is now available in Google Chrome version 103.0.5060.114 for Windows and Mac (Chrome 103.0.5060.71 on Android.) Google Chrome will automatically install updates, although it may take up to 24 hours to do so, and Chrome will not restart after installing an update; instead, it will offer you to restart your browser.

You don't want to browse without upgrading while an exploit is prevalent online. We recommend installing the update right away and restarting Chrome without waiting for it to complete automatically. On Windows, choose Help > About Google Chrome from the menu button in the upper-right corner of the Chrome browser window. Chrome must be updated via the Play Store for Android.

If the update hasn't already been installed, Google Chrome will find it and install it for you, and you'll see a progress bar. When Chrome has finished updating, click the "Relaunch" button. That's it—your Chrome browser has been updated. If you want to be sure it's safe, reload Chrome and make sure the version number is at least 103.0.5060.114.
