Samsung Unveils a Smarter, Conversational Bixby

Samsung Electronics has officially announced a beta program for the latest version of Bixby, transforming it into what the company describes as a conversational device agent.

This update is designed to make interacting with Galaxy devices feel more natural. Instead of memorizing menu structures or exact feature names, users can now speak to Bixby in everyday language and expect meaningful, contextual responses.

The upgrade reflects Samsung’s broader ambition to make AI more accessible and less technical in daily smartphone use.

A Shift Toward Natural Interaction

Samsung has emphasized that its goal since launching its first AI focused phone in 2024 has been to reduce friction in how people interact with their devices. With this new Bixby update, that vision becomes more tangible.

The assistant no longer requires rigid commands. Users can simply describe what they want in their own words.

For example, instead of navigating through multiple settings to prevent the screen from dimming, a user might say:

“I don’t want the screen to time out while I’m looking at it.”

Bixby interprets the intent and activates the appropriate feature without requiring the user to know the exact setting name.

This shift removes the learning curve that often comes with advanced smartphone features.

Smarter Context Awareness

The new Bixby does more than follow instructions. It analyzes context and identifies why something may be happening on the device.

If someone asks:

“Why is my phone screen always on in my pocket?”

Bixby can examine relevant system behaviors and suggest activating settings such as Accidental Touch Protection. Instead of offering generic troubleshooting steps, it provides targeted solutions based on the device’s current configuration.

This contextual awareness reduces trial and error, especially for users unfamiliar with advanced device options.

Real-Time Web Search Built In

Another major addition is live web search capability.

Previously, digital assistants often redirected users to a browser for detailed results. Now, Bixby can fetch up to date information from the open web and display it directly within its own interface.

For instance, a user could say:

“Find me hotels in Seoul that have swimming pools for kids.”

Bixby will process the request and present relevant results without switching apps. The experience feels integrated rather than fragmented.

This seamless transition between device control and web information signals Samsung’s effort to create a more unified AI environment.

Availability and Expansion Plans

The upgraded Bixby is rolling out through One UI 8.5 in select markets including Germany, India, Korea, Poland, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Samsung has indicated that wider availability is planned in future phases.
