Experts Fear iPhone 14's Satellite Capability May Be Harmful

The iPhone 14 was unveiled with a plethora of top-notch features including satellite connectivity. The feature will enable iPhone users to share messages from remote locations where cellular network is not available. Apple has advertised satellite function as a ‘vital’ safety feature but wilderness experts have another opinion.

Satellite Connectivity: Possible Dangerous Side Effects

According to Apple, the Emergency SOS feature, which will be available in November, will allow you to communicate with emergency services when you are not in range of cellular or Wi-Fi connection. The business says that under perfect circumstances, a message may take 15 seconds to deliver and you may be able to carry out file sharing, but beneath trees with light or medium foliage, it could take more than a minute. If you're in dense foliage or surrounded by other obstacles, you may not be able to connect to a satellite at all.

Midland Radio's Bruce Jones, an emergency preparation specialist, advised that cell phone users will need to recognize that this capability will not be useful 100% of the time hence use it wisely.

People may take this lightly and in order to ‘test it out’ go on possibly dangerous excursions. There have been various instances where people have ignored warnings and ventured out in the wilderness only to be recused by emergency teams later. While, satellite connectivity does save lives but mass connectivity due to the iPhone 14 may result in most people testing their limits and see the feature as a, ‘Free Pass’.

Technological advancements should always be dealt with care. No matter how advanced the tech is, inexperience will always win. Many outdoors specialists believe that the iPhone 14's satellite capabilities may be a valuable tool when handled properly. Overconfidence is what will get users in trouble.

Summing Up

It is also worth mentioning that not all satellite communications devices are the same hence be aware of the limits of the iPhone 14’s limit before venturing out in the wild. Lastly, do not put too much fate in satellite connectivity, be sure to always let someone know where you are heading and call us old fashioned but take a paper map just to be on the safe side.
