How to Customize the New iOS 16 Home App

Everything you need to operate your smart home is now in one location thanks to Apple HomeKit. HomeKit is a network that links all of your smart home gadgets together. The Apple HomeKit app allows you to operate all of the smart devices that are part of the HomeKit network. Even if you are unfamiliar with smart home technology, the app is really simple to use.

This autumn, iOS 16 will bring a substantial revamp to Apple's HomeKit Home app. We recently showcased all of the new features that will be available on the smart home platform, but we wanted to provide a little lesson on one of them: customisation.

HomeKit Revamp

The choices for customizing how your smart home devices, Rooms, and Favorites display on the screen have dramatically increased with the new Home app. You may rearrange your Home View to prioritize your most-used Rooms, or make your Favorites or Camera feeds the first thing you see when you open the app.

You may also reorganize the individual buttons for your devices, such as lights, door locks, and shades, in the same way that you can rearrange applications on an iPhone's home screen. This means that your most-used smart lights or door lock may be placed in a more convenient location for your thumb to swiftly touch, and you can put two related objects closer together.

There are new icons to assist identify a light by kind (for example, table lamp or ceiling light) or to rapidly distinguish other devices such as shades and smart plugs. Scenes, which may modify the status of many devices at the same time, now include additional icons and the possibility to customize the color of each Scene. Finally, additional background options have been added to give the app some flair.

To use the new Home app, you must be running iOS 16; the software is accessible on all Apple devices, including the iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch. It will be launched this autumn, but you may download a public beta right now if you can't wait.

How To Customize HomeKit

Home View Screen

Home View is the first screen that appears when you launch the Home app. You may also go there by hitting the Home button in the bottom navigation bar. Home View displays all programmable gadgets in your HomeKit home, organized by Rooms and Favorites. Scenes and Camera groupings are also available. These may now be rearranged to better suit how you use the devices.

In Your Home View, Reorder Sections

  • On your iPhone, launch the Home app.

  • To access the Menu, tap the three dots in the upper right-hand corner.

  • Choose Reorder Sections.

  • A list of all the Rooms and Groups (Cameras / Favorites / Scenes) shown on the Home View will appear.

  • Tap and drag the three horizontal lines adjacent to a Room or Group to the desired place on the Home View.

  • When you click Done, your Home View will be reorganized.

Hide A Device From View At Home

If your Home View is crowded with devices you seldom use in the app, you may hide them to make it seem cleaner.

  • On your iPhone, launch the Home app.

  • Remove From Home View by long-pressing a device tile.

  • The tile will be removed from the Home View but will remain in the individual Room View.

Icons Can Be Customized

Customizing the icons for your devices and Scenes might help you locate what you're searching for faster. This is similar to how you would customize icons such as Android file transfer on your smartphone. There are now 15 lighting icon choices in the new Home app (up from 10) and other categories have revised icons to help make it apparent if the symbol represents an above ceiling fan or a table fan, for example.

Edit The Icon For Your Light Or Other Devices

  • On your iPhone, launch the Home app.

  • Long-press the gadget whose icon you wish to modify.

  • In the bottom-right corner, tap the Settings icon (or swipe up from the bottom).
